The Teatro Real is coming back to New York
Gala concert at Carnegie Hall
On Thursday, June 5, American Fellows are once again invited to the Teatro Real’s return to Carnegie Hall with an unforgettable gala.
This unique event will feature the great Spanish violinist María Dueñas, the winner of the Princess of Girona Award and first prize at the Yehudi Menuhin Youth Competition. She will perform the Violin Concerto in D Major by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, the composer who fled from the Nazis and found success in Hollywood.
The Madrid-based soprano Saioa Hernández, the winner of best singer in the International Opera Awards, will debut in the United States with arias from zarzuelas by José Serrano and Manuel Penella and a monologue from Manuel de Falla’s La vida breve [The Short Life]. The program will then continue with Maurice Ravel.
The singers will be accompanied by the Madrid’s Teatro Real Orchestra, with musical director David Afkham.
